(New York) Tom Thibodeau is back in New York, as head coach of the Knicks.

Thibodeau, who was previously named NBA coach of the day, was hired on Thursday. He is therefore back with the team with which he entered the NBA Championship Series, when he was an assistant coach.

Details of the deal were not disclosed.

Thibodeau, 62, was 352-246 in eight seasons at the helm of the Chicago Bulls and Minnesota Timberwolves. He was named the NBA's most valuable coach in 2011 in his first season with the Bulls, who reached the 50-game plateau on three occasions during his five-season stint with them.

Thibodeau was Jeff Van Gundy's assistant when the Knicks reached the NBA Championship Series in 1999. He made the Championship Series two more times, while he was Doc Rivers' assistant at the Boston Celtics. He also won the championship with them in 2008.
