(Madrid) Real Madrid forward Mariano has tested positive for the coronavirus, the club have announced.
The news came as the team resumed training ahead of their Champions League game against Manchester City on August 7. Real Madrid lost at home 2-1 in the first leg of the round of 16 series.
Positive, but "in perfect health"
Madrid said Mariano was in "perfect health" and was following health protocols. He was confined to his home, the club added.
The whole Madrid team passed tests for COVID-19 on Monday. The players were given an almost 10-day break after winning the Spanish league title, the club's first in three years.
The club revealed that the players "have returned to work under strict health safety guidelines due to the COVID-19 pandemic. "
26-year-old Mariano has only appeared a few games for Madrid this season. His last was against Getafe in the Spanish league on July 2.
