(Toronto) Toronto Maple Leafs star center Auston Matthews will miss Thursday night's game against the Winnipeg Jets with an injury.
His state of health will be reassessed on a daily basis.
Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe has been asked about the nature of the injury and whether it is related to the wrist injury that plagued Matthews earlier this season. Keefe said she is "similar, but not the same".
He doesn't expect to be without the NHL's top scorer for long.
Matthews hopped onto the ice for his family's morning practice, but left before it officially started.
The American has scored 32 goals so far and his 53 points make him tied for fourth in the NHL.
The Leafs hold the top spot in the North section, five points ahead of the Jets, despite their two losses in a row.
