(Frisco) MLS and goalie Jesse Gonzalez mutually terminated his contract with FC Dallas, two months after he was charged with domestic violence.
The decision announced Thursday ends Gonzalez's 10-year streak with FC Dallas. He got along with the team's academy when he was 15.
MLS suspended Gonzalez in June after a report of suspected incidents of domestic violence was filed with police in Frisco, a suburb of Dallas.
When Gonzalez was suspended, MLS said he voluntarily entered the league's substance abuse and behavioral health assistance program.
The 25-year-old Gonzalez had been FC Dallas' starting goalie since 2017 and made 84 career-high last year. FC Dallas lost 4-3 to the Seattle Sounders in the first playoff round.
Gonzalez, who grew up in Dallas, made his 100 th career start in the match opening of this season. He was in net in the second game of his team before the COVID-19 pandemic put the circuit on hold.
